How to Use Comments in Postcards
Designing an email template is rarely a solo job. There are feedback rounds, revision requests, and back-and-forth between designers, copywriters, and stakeholders. And without a proper way to leave notes directly on the template, that communication ends up scattered across Slack threads, email chains, and shared docs.
Postcards solves this with a built-in Comments feature that lets you and your teammates leave feedback directly on the template, reply to each other, tag specific people, and track what’s been resolved; all without leaving the editor.
Entering and Exiting Comment Mode
To start leaving comments, click the Comment icon in the editor.

This activates Comment mode and opens the comment panel in the left sidebar, where the full comment history for the template is displayed.

To exit Comment mode, click the green "Done" button in the top-left. All comment markers will disappear from the template, they’re not deleted, just hidden. Re-entering Comment mode brings them all back.
Comment Mode Top Bar
When you enter comment mode, two toggles appear in the top bar. They stay available the whole time you're leaving feedback:
- Attach to element (dotted-cursor icon) — turn this on and your next comment will be pinned to a specific element you click on the canvas.

It's the same as holding Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) while placing a comment, but it stays active for repeated element-level feedback so you don't have to hold the key every time.

- Show resolved comments (checkmark icon) — resolved comments are hidden from the canvas by default. Turn this on to bring them back into view so you can revisit or reopen them.

Adding a Comment
You can leave a comment on any part of the template — a section, a block, a button, or even just a general note about the layout.
To add a general comment, click anywhere on the template where you want to leave a note. A pop-up window will appear where you can:
- Type your comment
- Mention a teammate using @name
- Add a sticker to the comment
After you post, a circular marker with your avatar appears at that spot, and the comment is added to the history in the left sidebar.
To attach a comment to a specific element, hold Cmd (Mac) / Ctrl (Windows) and click on the item. Prefer not to hold a key? Turn on the Attach to element toggle in the top bar instead — it keeps element-attaching mode active for every comment you add.
In this case, the comment marker appears in the upper-right corner of that element’s container, making it clear that the feedback is tied to that specific block rather than the general area.
The Comment Panel
The left sidebar shows the complete comment history for the template. Click the three-dot menu on any comment to see its available actions:

- Reply — respond directly to keep the conversation threaded.
- Edit comment — update your own comment after posting.
- Mark as Unread — flag a comment as new again so you (or a teammate) can revisit it later.
- Mark as Resolved — close out a comment once the feedback has been addressed.
- Delete comment — remove the comment entirely.
Note: Edit comment only appears on comments you posted yourself. All other actions are available on any comment.
Tip: You can also open this same menu directly on the canvas — click any comment pin to expand it, then click its three-dot menu for the same actions (Reply, Mark as Unread, Mark as Resolved, Delete comment). Handy when you're reviewing feedback in place and don't want to jump back to the sidebar.

- React — add an emoji reaction to a comment

Resolving Comments
Once feedback has been addressed, you can mark the comment as resolved to keep the panel clean and focused on what still needs attention.
Click the checkmark icon on the comment.
A confirmation pop-up will appear. Confirm, and the comment will disappear from the active comment list. Each comment is resolved individually, so you have full control over which threads are closed and which remain open.

Resolved comments disappear from the canvas by default. To bring them back into view for a status check or to reopen one; turn on the Show resolved comments toggle in the top bar.
Working with Multiple Comments
Every comment appears as its own avatar marker on the template, so it’s easy to see at a glance how many comments there are and where they are. Clicking a marker opens the corresponding comment directly.
Each comment is fully independent — you can reply to, edit, resolve, delete, or react to any comment without affecting the others.
Viewing All Comments Across Projects
You don't have to open each project to see what's waiting for you. From your projects dashboard, outside the editor, click the comment icon in the top-right corner (next to your avatar) to open the Comments panel.

The panel lists every comment across all projects in your active workspace, with two tabs:
- Unread — comments you haven't seen yet, so you can catch up quickly.
- All Comments — the full history across every project.
Each entry shows the project thumbnail, when the comment was added, and how many unresolved comments it has. Click any entry to jump straight to that project and comment; the editor opens, comment mode turns on, and the thread is ready for you.
Tip: The panel is scoped to your active workspace. To see comments from another workspace, switch to it first using the workspace switcher.
Inviting Teammates
To collaborate with someone who isn’t yet part of the project, type "@" in the comment panel and click Invite a teammate.

A pop-up will appear asking for their email address. Once you send the invitation, they’ll receive an email inviting them to join the project.

The invited teammate will receive an email like this:

After joining the team, they’ll receive a confirmation message.

Mentions and Notifications
Once a teammate has joined the project, you can mention them in any comment using @name. When mentioned, they receive an email notification containing the project name and the comment where they were tagged.

A few things worth knowing about how mentions work:
- Mentions are only sent to users who have already been added to the team. Typing an email address like
@example@gmail.comwill not send a notification — this is intentional to prevent mentions from reaching people who aren’t part of the project yet. - After joining, invited teammates will see the Comment icon in the upper-right corner of the editor with a notification badge showing the number of unread comments.

Comment Visibility
Comments are only visible while Comment mode is active.
Exiting Comment mode hides all markers from the template view — useful when you want a clean look at the design without the overlay. Re-entering Comment mode restores all comments exactly as they were.
