Postcards Custom Modules
Custom Modules are the best way to reuse your creations across different projects without rebuilding them from scratch.
How to Create a Custom Module
- Right-click the Module you want to save.
- A context menu will appear with 4 options:
- Rename
- Duplicate
- Create Custom Module
- Remove
- Select Create Custom Module.
- A popup will prompt you to name your module (up to 50 characters).
- Press Save.
Once saved:
- The module’s icon changes to violet, and its background becomes light-violet to indicate it’s now a Custom Module.
- A lock icon will also appear on the module.
Lock Icon Options
Clicking the lock icon reveals two powerful actions:
- 🔓 Unlock to Change
- Lets you rearrange layouts or modify the content inside the saved Custom Module.
- 🔗 Detach in Place
- Breaks the connection to the Custom Module system.
- The content stays in place, but it’s no longer tied to the original settings.
- Great for when you want to make one-off changes without affecting the main saved module.
- After adjusting, you can even save it again as a new Custom Module.
🔓 Unlock to Change (Detailed)
When you select Unlock to Change, the module becomes editable while still being connected to its saved Custom Module version.
What happens immediately:
- The lock icon transforms into an unlock icon.
- Right-clicking or pressing the icon again reveals new options:
- Lock Module
- Detach in Place
Use Lock Module if you unlocked the module by mistake and don’t need to edit it.
While Editing:
- Once you start rearranging layouts, changing content, removing, or adding elements, the system will track your changes.
- An asterisk (*) appears next to the module’s name in the right panel, showing that edits have been made but not yet saved.
After Editing:
Clicking the unlock icon again will now reveal:
- Save Changes - Updates the Custom Module with your new edits.
- Detach in Place - Keeps the current layout/content but breaks the link to the Custom Module system.
- Undo Changes - Reverts back to the original saved version (before your edits).
Editing Without Unlocking
If you make changes to a Custom Module without pressing the Unlock icon, here’s what happens:
- All edits you make will only apply in the current project.
- The original Custom Module remains untouched.
- You’ll notice an asterisk (*) next to the module’s name, showing there are unsaved edits.
When you now press or right-click the lock/unlock icon, you’ll see a new option:
- Push Changes - Applie your content edits to the Custom Module itself.
- Similar to Unlock to Change, but with one important difference:
- Only content changes (like text, images, colors) are updated.
- The layer structure (layouts, positions, hierarchy) remains the same as the original saved module.
In short:
- Unlock to Change = Full editing freedom (content + structure).
- Push Changes = Updates only the content while keeping the structure intact.
Reusing a Custom Module in Another Project
Custom Modules aren’t just for one project — you can bring them into any project you’re working on.
Here’s how:
- On the Left Panel
- Look for the Custom Modules tab.
- Reveal Your Saved Modules
- You’ll see a block with a blue “New Folder” button and a section labeled Unsorted.
- Click on Unsorted - it will expand to show all the Custom Modules you’ve saved.
- Add the Module to Your Project
- Simply press on the Custom Module (click to insert).
- Or, drag & drop the Custom Module directly onto your canvas.
Organizing Custom Modules with Folders
When your list of Custom Modules grows, folders help you keep everything tidy.
The “New Folder” Button
- On the Custom Modules panel, press the blue “New Folder” button.
- A popup will appear asking you to enter a folder name.
- Type your desired name (up to 50 characters) and press Save.
Now, alongside Unsorted, you’ll see a new folder label with the name you just created.
At first, it will be empty.
When hovering over a module in Unsorted, a gray 3-bubbles icon appears in the top-right corner.
Clicking on it reveals 3 options:
- Rename - Change the module’s name.
- Move to Folder - A popup will list available folders. Pick one, and the module will move there.
- Remove Module - Permanently deletes the module. A confirmation popup will appear so you don’t delete it by mistake.
Note: Once all modules are moved from Unsorted, the Unsorted section disappears automatically.
Folder Actions
Each folder also has a gray 3-bubbles icon (next to the folder name), but the options here are different:
- Rename - Change the folder’s name.
- Add to Favorites - Pins the folder at the very top of the left panel, marked with a bookmark icon. Great for quick access to your most-used modules.
- Press again to Remove from Favorites.
- Remove Folder - Warning: Deleting a folder will also delete all Custom Modules inside it.
Another way to Create Custom Modules (Right Panel)
Besides right-clicking on a module in the left panel, you can also create (or manage) custom module directly from the right panel.
- Select the module you want to work with.
- On the top of the right panel, next to the module name, you’ll see a gray 3-bubbles icon.
- Click it to reveal 5 options:
- Duplicate - Creates a copy of the selected module inside the same project.
- Copy to… - Lets you copy the current module to another project (without turning it into a Custom Module).
- Create Custom Module - Saves the selected module as a reusable Custom Module (same as left panel method).
- Reset - Reverts the module back to its original form (works only if the module came from Postcards’ pre-made templates).
- Remove - Deletes the module from the current project.
This method is faster when you’re already editing a module and don’t want to switch back to the left panel.
